CHARACTER APPLICATION FORM Character Name: Mariella Swanson Gender: Female Desired Race: Elemental -- Earth Age & DOB: 19, February 17th Hometown: Spokane, Washington Education: Graduated from high school a year early through an accelerated program, and continued on to a state university until she dropped, intending to only take a year off in order to discover herself and discover the extent of her powers. Outline your powers/abilities associated with your species briefly for us, please. 200 words or so. Be realistic. Include weaknesses as well.. Earth is the focal point of Mariella’s life and powers, but not in the earth of sand and silt and rock. Instead, Mariella is centered by the flora, by the green, healthy plants that seem to rely on her as much as she relies on them. Despite the fact that her parents (both elementals as well), knew what to expect from their daughter, Mariella still feels as though her powers control her more than she them. Now apart from her family, she uses the garden in the back of her apartment as outlet for her powers, allowing for a release as she controls the growth of the flowers and vines and the size of their blooms. Since she moved in, the gardens have been able to survive far longer than the hot summers or cold winters. Her influence of controlling plants and how they grow and move is not of itself anything horribly dangerous, and is most often used by Mariella for recreation and relief, but could be potentially harmful depending on what plant she decides to grow, and to what degree. Living in a city does not come without its hindrances, however, and Mariella feels confined and weakened in the grey, concrete confines of the city. In a place without plants, or in the desperate, dry heats, Mariella feels as wilted and weakened as her green followers. Please list the mythological influences of your character.Demeter/Persephone from Greek mythology, but only in little doses. Sample RP of your character (No more than 500 words please.) | QUOTE | So this was her new home? Her new life? Mariella Swanson sighed and sat her first boxes of belongings in the empty New Orleans apartment. It was quaint, to say the least, but it would do. At least it wasn’t Spokane. Nothing was dreadful about Washington, she supposed. The problem was with her family. They just wanted to help her, really, with the never ending string of lectures regarding the powers that she possessed, but it was confining. Almost suffocating.
Mariella was nearly twenty years old, and she needed to be free.
The plan had seemed reasonable in her head as she had traveled from one end of the country to the other. Now, she wasn’t so sure. Her mother had warned her of the dangers of being alone, of the dangers of not being able to completely control her ‘gift’ (which was more like an inconvenience, really). Even so, this was what Mariella’s heart told her she needed. She needed space, she needed independence and she needed a life of her own.
In her ideal dreams, this life would also fail to include the fact that Mariella’s powers were bigger than she was – or even better yet, her powers would be left out completely. Unfortunately for her, this was something that she would have to cope with, only now she was coping alone. Even now, as she crossed to sit in the middle of the empty living space, as she sighed and stretched out across the floor, pulling one hand through her wavy blonde hair, she could feel it.
Feel it bubbling underneath the surface, a boiling sensation that never left completely, but was making its presence widely known now. As much as she wished to, Mariella knew she couldn’t fight it. If she fought it, then the feeling would only grow more and more, until it swells, eventually rising to such heights and magnitudes that—
Well, Mariella didn’t know what would happen after that, but without a doubt, it would be unseemly.
She stood up and crossed to the front door, rummaging through her first box, then her second until she found it. She hadn’t known how to pack it, so she did no packing, only wrapping it in bubblewrap and then throwing it in with all of her other baubles, but she had found it. The now wilted and sad-looking fern that had accompanied her on her drive. With its dull leaves and drooping stature, it looked as though she would never forgive Mariella for what she did to it, but with one deep intake of breath and touch, it sprang back to life.
Mariella smiled at the now lively plant and patted it softly before placing it on the floor and retrieving more objects from her cardboard moving boxes |
